Decedent, a student athlete at UCSB, was in a training session while riding up Gibraltar Rd. Defendant was driving a tractor/trailer truck hauling asphalt for a road project going in the same direction as decedent when he ran over decedent as he passed on a narrow section of the road. The County of Santa Barbara, the truck driver and two contractors were sued on assorted claims of liability. The case settled after jury selection and opening statements were made. Payments came from the County ($800,000.00) the truck driver ($900,000.00) and one of the contractors ($1,050,000.00).
